JOB TITLE: STUDENT MINISTER
REPORTS TO THE PASTOR AND PERSONNEL COMMITTEE
QUALIFICATIONS
• Mature, growing disciple with a consistent devotional life.
• Prioritize their own family above church ministry.
• Meets the spiritual qualifications found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.
• Exhibits a missional lifestyle and mindset.
• Enthusiasm for making disciples and ministering to students.
• Ability to work on a team towards specific goals in a mutually encouraging and supportive manner.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks, be flexible, and work with little supervision.
• Understands effective approaches to student ministry.
• Self-motivated, strategic thinker, with strong communication skills.
• Commitment to and agreement with the statement of basic beliefs of May First Baptist Church.
• Follow the Constitution, Bylaws, and Policy & Procedures Manual of May FBC (will provide upon request).
• Maintain regular office hours and be on-the-job 35 hours per week.
• Committed to life-long learning, desiring to continue to pursue theological training and leadership development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the Student Ministry by teaching, overseeing, planning, and leadership development.
• Train, equip, and nurture the leadership of the Student Ministry.
• Integrate students into the church body for service and discipleship opportunities.
• Develop relationships with parents and involve them through regular communication, parent
meetings, and individual conversations.
• Encourage, resource, and equip parents to minister to their children and view themselves as the primary disciple-makers of their kids.
• Encourage and provide learning opportunities for parents of students. Involve them in programs and activities.
• Visit the students, their parents and their schools on a regular basis.
• Develop relationships within May ISD (Admin, Teachers, Coaches, etc.).
• Support the entire direction and program of the church.
• Prioritize integrating students into the entire church body in growing and serving.
• Oversee weekly Sunday school and Wednesday gathering.
• Expand the youth ministry through recruiting and equipping new leaders.• Plan, direct and administer special activities/events.
• Maintain a calendar of events coordinated with other church activities.
• Develop and implement strategies, and goals for growing the ministry.
• Develop, expand, update, and improve policies and procedures.
• Pursue and maintain excellence in all things.
• Conduct hospital visits to parents or students in the ministry when necessary.
• Update and maintain the student ministry portion of the website.
• Conduct membership meetings and baptism meetings with students.
• Recruit, build, develop, resource, empower a student leadership team as well as adult student ministry volunteers.
• Regularly and systematically disciple students and training them to disciple others.
• Be available to preach/teach in various settings.
Responsibilities for this role may expand to include oversight of the May Kids ministry.
